Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals: Uncontrolled Medicine in Your Patient for Nurses
Self-paced
Full course description
Successful completion of this course should allow you to:
- Explain the role endocrine disrupting chemicals play in human health.
- Assess how to manage EDC exposure in your practice.
- Devise strategies to communicate with patients about EDC exposures.
Decades-long research has shown significant poor health outcomes that can be attributed to exposure to hazardous chemicals such as Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), Bisphenol A (BPA), and other endocrine disruptors. This course was developed to provide medical providers, nurses, clinicians, and others serving patients with the tools to recognize, manage, and communicate with patients who may have been exposed to endocrine disrupting chemicals.
This course is made possible by a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in collaboration with environmental science researchers at Emory University Rollins School of Public Health to develop novel tools, activities, or materials to build environmental health literacy for a variety of groups, including community members, health care and public health professionals, educators, and students of all ages.
